Payroll legislative changes – effective 1 April 2016

 In News

From 1 April 2016 there are a number of important legislative changes that will affect your payroll.

The National Living Wage becomes law, with any workers aged 25 or over being legally entitled to earn at least £7.20 per hour.

Reporting PAYE to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) becomes more timely, and employers are being encouraged to make payments to HMRC using on-line and telephone systems rather than payment booklets.

Sweeping changes to how the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) is reported to HMRC becomes effective from 6 April 2016 with HMRC’s CIS online service becoming crucial to submitting returns.

Other changes also include employees living in Scotland, student loans and voluntary payrolling of benefits.
