Amy Weston

After graduating from University with a 1st Class Honours Degree in Accountancy and Finance, Amy joined the WV team and has progressed to complete her ACA and CTA qualifications. Amy manages her own portfolio, which has enabled her to meet new clients and build confidence in talking to them. She has a split role working within the compliance team and on the advisory side. This has allowed her to understand and experience the bigger aspects of tax, working with various sized companies, assisting with restructures, R&D claims and employment-related securities.

Amy had the following to say about working at WV, “It’s great to have such a supportive team and managers who are always there to help you. They let you manage your own workload instead of managing it for you. They always have your best interests at heart and want to push you to exceed and expand your knowledge.

I like the variety of work that I get to do, no day is the same and I enjoy the flexible working hours the company offer. I can come in and start early so I can have the evening to myself.”

Jessica Moore

Whilst at Secondary School, Jess always knew she wanted to be an Accountant. Jess opted to complete a 4-year sandwich course which meant that she gained 12 months on-the-job experience into how an accountancy practice works. In July 2017 Jess attained a 1st Class Honours Degree in Accountancy and Finance from the University of Lincoln.

On completing her final year, Jess approached more than one firm for a trainee place and when coming for interview at Wright Vigar she was fortunate to have options.

Jess says “It was important for me to choose a firm that prioritised my training and personal development, but I was also really impressed by the Wright Vigar welcome. I was immediately put at ease in my interview and John and Jo explained not only the ‘formal’ qualifications that I would be supported to achieve, but also the mentoring within the working environment that supports the textbook learning. I am enjoying meeting clients and in my free time I have supported some of the regular fundraising activities that Wright Vigar undertake.”

Ryan Todd

Ryan joined Wright Vigar in 2016 after graduating from the University of Lincoln with a 1st Class Honours degree in Accountancy & Finance. Since joining Wright Vigar Ryan has completed all of his ACA exams and is now a fully qualified Chartered Accountant.

As part of his day-to-day role Ryan works in the accounts team, primarily on audits, and is involved with a variety of clients from companies and charities to solicitors.

Ryan said, ‘I like the family feel aspect at WV. All my colleagues are friendly, approachable and always willing to support you. I also like the fact I have autonomy for my work, as well as being able to work across a range of clients. Each client is different and so provides an element of challenge. The flexible working patterns help to encourage work-life balance.

WV is different from any other firm as they care about the staff. They always ensure someone is able to support you and want you to achieve and do the best you can.’

John Richmond

John joined WV in 1999 to return to practice after realising that he needed the support of the practice environment to help him succeed with his ACCA qualifications.  As the company grew from the 24 staff when he joined, John took on the responsibility for training and eventually HR, following many years working in the Business Services team.  He is now responsible for HR compliance and the training and development of the team and over the years has recruited trainees who are now directors of the firm.

John had the following to say about Wright Vigar, “It has been great seeing the company grow over the years. It has produced new challenges for many, including myself.

I have enjoyed seeing and helping people develop, not just their professional qualifications but also how they hone their professional skills and stature in the business.

Training and development of our people is a real team effort, as well as providing opportunities to pursue professional qualifications we place importance on knowledge sharing and shadowing within our teams. We can all learn new things from one another!

The business is constantly evolving and provides challenges – no two days are the same for me. The people are great to work with and try to support each other the best we can.

WV has always been people-focused – we say that our people are our biggest asset. We provide opportunities for people and allow them to determine their own future.”
