Be careful of rebate claim agents and fake refund promises.

The rapid growth of tax rebate claim agents is raising concerns after recent flurry of fraudulent activity by tax refund companies.

Some businesses appear to be taking advantage of tax relief payments given to employees forced to work from home due to the pandemic. According to some of the agents’ websites, applicants may be eligible for hundreds of pounds in rebates if they file a claim with them.

People may, however, be signing away their rights to up to 50% of any refunds owed from the previous tax year, as well as any backdated claims for the previous four years.
