COVID-19 Update – 1 September – Changes to CJRS - Wright Vigar
 In Advice, Blog, News

We would like to remind you that the changes to the Coronavirus Job retention Scheme come into effect today.

The government will only pay 70% of wages up to a maximum cap of £2,187.50 for the hours the employee is on furlough leave during September. Employers will have to pay employers’ national insurance and pension contributions and top up employees’ pay to ensure they receive 80% of their wages up to a cap of £2,500, for the hours they are on furlough leave during this month.

Employers will still be able to top up employees’ pay above the 80% total (and £2,500 cap) for the hours they are on furlough leave, if they choose to at their own expense.  Employees can also work when not on furlough leave, if required by their employer, and be paid for hours worked as normal.

These rules will change again in October with the government reducing the amount you can claim to 60% of the employees wage up to a maximum of £1,875. The scheme will then close on 31 October.
