COVID-19 Update – 13 November – Is your business eligible for a coronavirus grant due to national restrictions?

A welcome relief to some businesses as the government announced they are to provide grants for businesses who have been forced to close during the national lockdown. This grant is in addition to the support already available for businesses who had to close under the local restrictions.

Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG (Closed) Addendum)

Businesses that are required to close due to the national restrictions between 5 November and 2 December 2020 may be eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant (LRSG (Closed) Addendum).

If your business is eligible you may be entitled to a cash grant from your local council for each 28-day period under national restrictions.

Your business may be eligible if it:

• is based in England
• occupies a property on which it pays business rates (and is the ratepayer)
• has been required to close because of the national restrictions from 5 November to 2 December 2020
• has been unable to provide its usual in-person customer service from its premises

For example, this could include non-essential retail, leisure, personal care, sports facilities and hospitality businesses. It could also include businesses that operate primarily as an in-person venue, but which have been forced to close those services and provide a takeaway-only service instead.

Eligible businesses can get one grant for each non-domestic property.

Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) 

Businesses that are not covered by other grant schemes or where additional funding is needed may be eligible for the Additional Restrictions Grant.

Local councils will have the freedom to determine which business to target and the amount of funding from the ARG.

It is expected that the funding will help those businesses that:

• supply the retail, hospitality, and leisure sectors
• are in the events sector
• are required to close but do not pay business rates

Local Restrictions Support Grant LRSG (Sector)

Businesses that have remained closed since March 2020 due to national restrictions, may be eligible for the Local Restrictions Support Grant.

Eligible businesses are entitled to a cash grant from their local council for each 14-day period they are closed.

Eligible businesses include:

• nightclubs, dance halls, and discotheques
• adult entertainment venues and hostess bars

Your business may be eligible if it:

• is based in England
• occupies a property on which it pays business rates (and is the ratepayer)
• has been closed since 23 March 2020 because of national restrictions

Eligible businesses can get one grant per non-domestic property.

Takeaway freedoms extended

The automatic freedom granted to restaurants, pubs and cafes to provide takeaway services will be extended by another year. This was due to end on 23 March 2021.
