The scheme itself is to run all day, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 3rd to 31st August in eligible, registered establishments. It will offer a 50% discount up to a maximum of £10 per head on food and non-alcoholic drinks to eat or drink in. It can be used an unlimited number of times by diners and excludes alcohol or service charges.

Eligible establishments include those which sell food for immediate consumption on the premises, provide their own dining area or share a dining area for another establishment for eat-in meals, and were registered as a food business with the local authority on or before 7th July 2020.

Ineligible establishments include those offering only takeaway food or drink, catering services for private functions, hotels offering room service only, dining services (e.g. packaged dinner cruises), mobile food vans or trailers.

To register (available from 13th July 2020), you will need to go here. The Government guidance on the scheme is available from here. Registration will be instantaneous, and you will be able to download promotional materials to advise customers that you are part of the scheme.

Important dates to note are:
13th July – Registration opens
3rd August – First date that you can offer the discount
7th August – Start of reimbursement claims (but you must allow 7 days from date of registration to date of claiming reimbursement) which will be paid within 5 working days of the claim
30th September – End of service
