Wright Vigar National Three Peaks Challenge
30th Aug 2024
Last Friday, 11 of our team tackled the National Three Peaks with the aim to complete all mountains within a 24-hour timed challenge, all in aid of St Barnabas Hospice! They set off at Fort William, taking on Ben Nevis first in the wind, rain and darkness. A challenge itself, without the added pressure of being timed! After 6 hours, our three drivers spotted them on their descent by their head torches flickering in the distance. 75% of our team made it to the summit, an incredible achievement.
Once the minibuses were packed up, the team headed towards Scafell Pike. Despite the relentless wind and rain, the team started their climb. However, due to a flooded river crossing, they were unable to ascend safely and the difficult decision to turnaround had to be made due to the severity of the weather.
The team were still determined to carry on and traveled to Snowdon for their final climb. Although the winds were still fierce, the rain had dried up and the clouds cleared so team moral was high and they were raring to climb the final mountain before sunset. They managed to climb 2/3rds of the peak and could see the summit in the distance however, it transpired that the winds were too strong and, after nearly losing a member of our team over the cliff edge, the sensible decision was made to descend!
An incredible effort was contributed by all involved which has made it a very unforgettable experience. Our team have managed to raise a very impressive £2,000 for our charity of the year!
A shout out to our drivers Louise, Lucy and Pippa. Without them, it would not have been possible!
