Wright Vigar and HSBC were delighted to hand over a cheque for £1,600 to Gemma Shaw, regional new business manager at Macmillan Cancer Support.

HSBC organised and hosted the football event which saw ten teams field their best players in a bid to win the tournament on Tuesday 2 June 2015. Held at the University of Lincoln sports campus organisers HSBC then matched the £800 raised through entry fees to reach a total of £1,600.

As overall winners, Wright Vigar team members chose which charity they wished to donate the funds to, and decided on Macmillan Cancer Support.

Philip Carr, a relationship director in corporate banking for HSBC in Lincoln, said: “This is the third year we have hosted the event and again all ten teams that took part had a fantastic evening, while raising money for charity in the process.

“The entry fee raised £800, which HSBC was delighted to double to £1,600. Macmillan Cancer Support is a charity that touches so many, and therefore an excellent choice by the winning team Wright Vigar.”

The money could pay for a Macmillan Nurse for almost 60 hours, helping cancer patients and their families get medical, practical and emotional support.

It could pay for running the Macmillan Support Line phone service for almost an hour.

In that time, staff could answer 48 calls and emails from people who need support or just want to chat.

The charity supports Lincolnshire with 74 Macmillan professionals working in the local community and hospital environments.

It estimates that by 2030, the number of people living with and beyond cancer in Lincolnshire will fill Lincoln City’s Sincil Bank stadium nearly six times.
