Visit Lincoln kindly shared a breakdown of the roadmap outlined in the Prime Minister’s statement on 22 February and we have summarised the key points below for you.

In the announcement the Prime Minister outlined his plans for easing the lockdown in England, the main talking points being:

  • There will be no Tier system – England will be treated as a single area.
  • There will be four steps
  • There will be at least 5 weeks between each step

The four-step roadmap to easing the lockdown restrictions is as follows

Step 1

  • 8 March – All schools reopen, and people can meet one other person outside for recreation.
  • 29 March – People can meet outside, subject to the rule of 6 and providing no more than 2 households are meeting, outdoor sports facilities can reopen, and formally organised sport can restart.

Step 2

  • No earlier than 12 April – Self-catering, non-essential retail, zoos, theme parks and drive-in cinemas will reopen, and pubs and restaurants can open for outdoor service.

Step 3

  • No earlier than 17 May – Hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, cinemas and theatres will reopen, and pubs and restaurants can reopen for indoor service.

Step 4

  • No earlier than 21 June – All social contact limits will be lifted; large events and performances will be able to go ahead and nightclubs will reopen.

In addition to this 4-step plan, there will be 4 reviews.

  1. Whether having a vaccine or a negative test result can reduce restrictions on social contact.
  2. Piloting the impact of testing and reduced social distancing on events.
  3. How to facilitate more inbound and outbound travel – to report back by 12 April
  4. Review social distancing measures, such as the one-metre-plus rule, rules on face coverings and working from home – to report back by 21 June.
